From the perspective of processing technology, there are two main processing methods for breathable membranes, one is the flat film casting method, and the other is the blown film method. In China, even Asia, Europe and the United States, most of them use the casting method.

The main process flow of casting method is as follows:

PE raw material + porogen – mixing metering – extrusion granulation – extrusion casting – stretching setting – cooling – trimming – coiling.

Among them, the influence of stretching process on film performance in the whole process is very important. During the stretching process, when the bonding force between the porogen caco3 particles and the surrounding pe polymer is smaller than the deformation force of the pe polymer caused by stretching, the polymer separates along the edge of the caco3 particles, resulting in some tiny Void, the cavity cannot pass through liquid molecules, only gas molecules can pass through, so that the stretched film has the function of waterproof and breathable. The size of the cavity can be adjusted, depending on the size, shape, stretching method, stretching ratio and other process conditions of caco3 particles.

When the stretching temperature is at a certain value, as the stretching ratio increases, the void diameter of the PE breathable film increases, the air permeability increases, and the stretch performance becomes worse; as the thickness increases, the air permeability decreases.
